For Parents: How did we choose these games?

back to games

The games on healthelinks For Kids were carefully selected and reviewed by medical librarians at LSU Health Shreveport.

To be included for evaluation, the games had to have all of the following characteristics:

  • interactive
  • available online
  • accessible for free
  • appropriate for children in preschool or early elementary school
  • intended for health education

Next, Health Sciences Library faculty tested each game and assigned points based on the following criteria:

  • difficulty level
  • educational value
  • trustworthiness of site
  • presence of advertisements

Last, the games with the highest scores were analyzed for reading level using the Flesch-Kinkaid Grade Level and Flesch Reading Ease tests.

  • Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level – determines the school grade a person must have completed to understand the text
  • Flesch Reading Ease test – calculates a score based upon a 100-point scale, and the higher the score the easier the text is to comprehend

Games that met all above criteria and received the best scores during testing were included on this website.
